Infographic creation websites.

For this blog, I was given 3 sites that can be used to create infographics and asked to evaluate each:

  1. 1. Easel.ly: This site offers 30 to 40 templates that are easily edited. But the number of options for graphics, animations and text are severely limited on the free account. There are only 3 basic charts/graphs to choose from for use in the infographic but again, these are easily edited. There are no other types of presentations available to create, at least that could be easily found. The infographic size could adjust up to approximately 12”x17”. If the pro plan were preferred, however, to maximize options, the price would be extremely reasonable ranging from $2/month (individual plan) to $5/month (business plan). Below is an example of one of the templates found on Easel.ly.

  1. 2. Infogram: The free account was extremely limited in what you could do down to the number of projects allowed. There were, however, more free options for graphics and images than Easel.ly offered. The templates were easily edited, and it offered more free charts and graphs than Easel.ly (with 16 options). It also allowed for other types of presentations, such as slide presentations and reports. Any projects created under the free account, though, were considered public access and would be searchable on the internet. The cost for the pro plans for an individual began at $19/month, higher than Easel.ly. Below is an example of one of the templates found on Infogram.

  1. 3. Piktochart: Of the 3 sites, this would be the one I would most likely use. When signing up you can choose your role (student, librarian, accountant, etc.). The site then gives suggestions for templates and designs based on your role, so it attempts to gear options towards the user’s needs. The templates were easily edited, and there were more options (graphics, animations, images) on the free account than the two above sites offered. There was a large variety of graph and chart templates to choose from. It was also possible to create slide presentations and posters. The pro plan for an individual began at $40/year, which would cost less than $4 a month, comparable to Easel.ly. The first example below is a template from Piktochart. The second is an infographic I created using an article from pewinternet.org
