Universal Design for Learning

UDLs are intended to abolish barriers that make learning difficult and ensure that curriculum can be understood and applied by all. The guidelines help teachers develop lessons that support learning.  1.  Which guideline am I already using?  I believe I am already using action and expression by allowing students multiple ways to express their learning. Frequently I create choice boards with varied levels and different types of activities that allow students to show mastery of content.  One space on the board always says "your choice" with teacher approval so they are left with more options than I have created. 2.  Which could I easily add to my curriculum?  I feel I could easily add representation by creating station activities that appeal to various interests and learning styles.  Each station could present the  Content in a different manner depending on the students chosen form of information whether it be visual, auditory or kinesthetic. ...

Podcasts

Ways podcasts can be used in the library:  Students can use podcasts to review books or discuss hot topics, like book banning. We can also share ideas with classroom teachers on how they can use podcasts in the classroom. Students can debate political topics present research create how to videos and share information on a variety of topics. As librarians we can use podcasts to promote library programs and review policies and procedures. Challenges:  Podcasts can take quite a while to produce an edit, especially for students who are uncomfortable with technology. Some students may also find And it cup is a whole Google duck it difficult to acquire all the necessary equipment or to creatively present content on a regular basis.  Caveats:  Podcasts may discourage students from reading if they can find the information in a podcast where they can listen rather than read. Be sure that the podcast you use and create support the content in a meaningful manner and are ...

Cartoons and comics

Cartoons and comics FOTOJET: The fun aspect of this site is that you can use your own photos to create the cartoons. But the  images must be on the device or uploaded to the device, and it may be difficult to find images that fit  the topic (though I didn’t have that issue). There are also a limited number of free templates on the free  membership. But the paid subscription is fairly inexpensive: $40/year or $6.99 per month. It was fairly  easy to use the template and manipulate its parts.   Pixton: The free subscription had a lot of free templates, backgrounds, and characters to choose from.   The characters were easily modified, including their poses and facial expressions, which was fun to play  with.  But once the characters were added, they could not be easily removed from future panels (I had  to move off screen, could not delete). There was also a limit to the number of characters, which  prevented me from including all the...

Videos and QR codes in the Library

Image
I started this by looking at how a few libraries/librarians used YouTube. First was the UnquietLibrary (https://www.youtube.com/user/theunquietlibrary/videos). I watched "How to Embed a Voice Thread or Prezi..." (youtube.com/watch?v=mipDakS7yjo) and "PowerPoint How To Basics" (youtube.com/watch?v=CFlaZyGa2vo). Both were very useful instructional videos that were easy to follow.  Next was Pikesville HS library (https://www.youtube.com/user/pikesvillehslibrary/videos). I watched "Pimp my Binder" (youtube.com/watch?v=Xg_MQe5zGn4&t=264s) If all the videos I found this the most useful.  It was a student led video giving step by step instructions on getting your binder organized and easier to use,  whereas the other videos I found could be easily Googled. I also watched "Senior Party in Library" (youtube.com/watch?v=cTqy_KdeAPc). This one was confusing because I did not see the purpose of the video,  unless I missed something.  Finally I watched B...
